100 Year Anniversary
Moonee Valley District
The 100 Year Badge (shown above) will be available to all members in the Moonee Valley District during 2009

The Centenary of Australian Scouting is a significant milestone.
Scouts Australia commissioned a typically Australian logo to
commemorate the occasion imbued with meaning and its own story.
The two Aboriginal symbols at the centre of the logo
represent "young person" and "human kind" respectively.
The lines in the background represent a journey or a passage of time
marked by milestones (the circles).
The design, while celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Australia, recognizes the journey of
Scouting over 100 years to 2008 to become the modern youth organization it is today.
The logo embodies the principle that
Scouting is inclusive and for all people (humankind).

FIELD DAY 23rd MAY 2009
Saturday morning. Finally the day, having been planned for months, had arrived. The activities had been set up by dedicated leaders, but were now empty, as everyone rushed off to try and set up other activities. The tireless leaders moved from one activity to the next, as more Scouts, Cubs, Joeys, Venturers and Rovers turned up- although the Venturers and Rovers were there more to help the Leaders. The sausages on the BBQ were smelling good, and a long line was beginning to snake its way in front of the Hall.
But before all had eaten, the activities were ready, and Marcia Helmers (our District Commissioner) was eager to open the event. Flag break began, with the Essendon Sea Scouts showing us their rarely seen version of Opening Ceremony. As soon as the Ceremony was finished, youth were split up and sent off to various activities run by the many groups in attendance. These included Camp Cooking, “Wasp Wrestling”, Water Rockets, Orienteering, and others.
During activities, members were also asked to place a handprint on the large white tarp we were using to celebrate the Centenary of Moonee Valley Scouts. This was to later be displayed in the District Hall.
The day ended, all too soon, and the Closing Ceremony conducted. Many members of the public were also looking on by this point, as well as family and friends of the members present. Final prints were made on the tarp, and thank you’s said to the many who had worked so hard for this to happen. The clean up was quick thanks to the many youth who pitched in, and the day a success. So thank you again to all who helped to make this day what it was, and hopefully those in attendance all enjoyed themselves as much as they appeared to.

Every year on the 22nd of February, we celebrate the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement. We call this Founder's Day.
2009 sees the celebration of 100 years of Scouts in our District, Moonee Valley. To celebrate this year we are combining the two big events and starting the year's celebration with the Founder's Day Pool Party. |
The Pool Party is on Wednesday 25th February from 5.30 to 8.00pm. The activities commence at 6.00pm with the Opening Ceremony, games and then the coin dive. The kids will have the chance to dive for a Centenery Coin, struck to commemerate the Century of Scouting in Australia.
At 7.00pm the Scout Band strikes up and will be providing some wonderful live music as more games and activities go on.
Of course, a party is not the same without food, and so a BBQ and sausage sizzle with drinks will be happening to provide 150 hungry Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers and not forgetting the Leaders!
To make the party one where everyone can join in, the pool will be opening to the public with a dicounted entry of a $2.00 Gold Coin.
So come in on and join the fun!
OTHER ACTIVITIES DURING THE 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Following the Pool Party we are holding a Field Day on the 23rd May- showing off the skills and activities of our Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. Finally there will be a District Camp in November where we will all get together at our Rowallan camp.
